National Butterfly Center
The National Butterfly Center (3333 Butterfly Park Dr, Mission, TX 78572) is a 100-acre wildlife sanctuary and botanical garden managed by the North American Butterfly Association, and it is one of the most ecologically significant sites in the entire Rio Grande Valley. The center sits along the Rio Grande and protects native South Texas habitat for more than 200 butterfly species — including several found nowhere else in the United States. Peak butterfly season runs October through November, when migration brings enormous concentrations of species through the Valley.
Group tours are available with advance reservation. Charter buses and minibuses can drop off at the main entrance on Butterfly Park Drive. Confirm group tour logistics and current hours directly with the center before your visit.
